Irish Gardaí To Set Up Darknet Special Squad

For those of you who are constantly following the news of the deep web, it won’t come as a surprise that there are several governmental and federal actions against ”darknet criminals”. Just in the past month, the Interpol has created a ”darknet training course” that will help law enforcement authorities to catch DNM drug dealers, pedophiles, hackers and other kinds of deep net criminals more effectively. Canada has also come up with a new idea, the Canadian government is developing a deep net crawler that will make LE’s job easier when dealing with darknet criminals and websites.

Not just Canada and the Interpol has taken measures against the deep web, but surprisingly, Ireland has done so too. The Irish Independent has published information about the Gardaí (Irish police) planning to set up a special task force against darknet criminals. The news site haven’t gone into specific details, we only know that the special squad will consist of only a handful of officers and the task force will also use the help of civilian experts to deal more efficiently with deep net criminals.

The official statement goes by:

” Gardaí have established an ad-hoc specialist undercover cyber crime unit to target drug dealers and other criminals using the dark net to do their business.”

We haven’t heard much news about darknet dealings on the darknet (arrests, police busts, etc.), however, Operation Onymous has resulted in the raid of a ”darknet distribution center” in Dublin. The Gardaí has reached the drug dealers via the dark web and has seized more than $200.000 worth of drugs, including LSD, ecstasy, and weed. The ”darknet distribution center” term has been used in the official article about the bust, however, it was, most probably, an Irish Vendor on SR2 before the Gardaí has busted the two men in late 2014.
